Puff Transfers are a type of heat transfer vinyl (HTV) or screen-printed transfer that expands under heat, creating a raised, 3D effect on fabric. Once pressed, the material puffs up, giving designs a bold, textured, and soft look. They're especially popular in fashion and streetwear for making logos, text, and artwork stand out with a tactile finish.
Puff transfers are ideal for use on cotton or cotton-blend garments and are often used on t-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, and hats.
---How to Apply Puff Transfers
What You Need:
Heat press (not recommended for use with an iron)
Garment (preferably cotton or cotton/poly blend)
Application Steps:1. Set Your Heat Press:
Temperature: 300°F to 320°F (check the specific brand's recommendation)
Time: 8 to 12 seconds
Pressure: Firm to heavy pressure is crucial to activate the puff effect
2. Pre-Press Garment:
Press the garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
3. Position the Transfer:
Place the puff transfer on the garment with the design facing up and the carrier sheet on top.
4. Press:
Close the heat press and apply firm, even pressure for the full time.
5. Peel:
Peel hot or warm, depending on the manufacturer's instructions.
You’ll see the design puff up immediately as it cools.
Tips for Best Results:
Do not repress after the puff effect has expanded — it will flatten.
Use bold, simple designs (thin lines may not puff properly).
Always test on a sample garment if trying a new material or setting.
